COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s Sadhaf Pervez (Sr./Warren, N.J.) was defeated by Alice Pirsu (So./Pennsylvania) in the first round of competition at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship Thursday. Pirsu, who was ranked No.14 in the Oct. 9 Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings, won the match, 6-1, 6-0.

Pervez will enter the consolation round and face California’s Catherine Lynch, who fell to the No. 3 seed Jewel Peterson (Jr./Southern California). Lynch is ranked No. 33, where Pervez is ranked No. 89. The match will take place Friday.

The event will be the first of three ITA national championships of the 2002-03 seasons. The Nov. 7-10 Omni Hotels/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships is the second and the year-end NCAA championships is the third.

The All-American Championship dates back to 1983 and the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., has played host to the event since 1988. All results will be posted on www.itatennis.com.
