%^$LAKE PLACID, N.Y.–The Ohio State women’s hockey team faced the 1998 gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s National Team in an exhibition game Tuesday afternoon at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., the site of the 1980 Winter Olympics. Despite limiting the Americans to 36 shots on goal, the Buckeyes fell, 9-1. Jayne Bucksa (So., New Brighton, Minn./Totino-Grace) scored OSU’s lone goal–the first of her collegiate career–although it will not count in overall individual or team statistics. Following losses to St. Lawrence (4-2) and Cornell (5-3) over the weekend, Ohio State is 6-11-2 overall and 4-6-2 in the WCHA. Team USA improved to 24-1 overall.%^$

%^$Alana Blahoski put Team USA on the board at 5:27 in the first stanza. The Americans would take a 4-0 lead by the end of the period, with goals from Krissy Wendell, and Julie Chu, at 13:30 and 14:39, respectively, and a power-play goal by A.J. Mleczko at the 17:48 mark.%^$

%^$Wendell scored her second of the afternoon at 7:31 in the second period, with the assist going to Angela Ruggiero, who tallied three assists in the game. Annamarie Holmes added a power-play goal at 10:00 and Chu notched her second at 14:13, and the Americans extended their lead to 7-0 going into the second intermission.%^$

%^$Ohio State played a much more even period in the third, killing off two early penalties. At 4:28, Sue Merz scored the Americans’ third power-play goal. At 12:36, Kelli Halcisak (Fr., Grosse Isle, Mich./Shattuck-St. Mary’s) delivered a pass to Bucksa, who fired a point-blank shot past Team USA goalie Sara DeCosta for OSU’s only tally. The Americans put the finishing touches on their 9-1 victory at 16:58 when Carissa Zeyban slipped the puck past April Stojak (So., Kent, Ohio/Shattuck-St. Mary’s).%^$

%^$Team USA outshot OSU, 36-11. Stojak tallied 27 saves–including 12 in the second period–while DeCosta stopped 10 Buckeye shots for the win.%^$

%^$OSU went 0-for-7 on the power play and the Americans converted on 3-of-6 opportunities.%^$

%^$For the first time since Dec. 9, Ohio State returns home Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13, to take on conference foe Bemidji State. The Buckeyes and Beavers face off at 7:05 p.m. Friday and 4:05 p.m. Saturday at the OSU Ice Arena.%^$
