COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team finished second at the 2006 Big Ten Women’s Golf Championships in Bloomington, Ind., Sunday. The Buckeyes shot 299 over the final round. Ohio State totaled 1,185 – seven strokes from the lead – for the championships (293-297-296-299) on the par-72, 6,142-yard Indiana University Championship Golf Course.

Purdue claimed the conference title, carding 1,179 over the three-day, 72-hole event. Michigan State was third with 1,191. Northwestern’s Alice Kim was the conference medalist with a four-round total of 291.

Ohio State’s Carling Coffing (So., Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) tied for second at 292 (+4). She shot 75 during the final round. Coffing was one stroke from the medalist position. She tied Sara Brown from Michigan State and Purdue’s Maria Hernandez.

Dana Je (Jr., Orlando, Fla./Montverde Academy) moved up six spots to tie for eighth (298) for OSU. Je shot the Buckeye’s best final-round score of 1-over 73, shaving three strokes from her third-round total. Stephanie Connelly (Fr., Pasadena, Md./The Pendelton School) tied for 15th with 303 in her first conference tournament representing the Buckeyes. Ohio State’s Jennifer Selfinger (Sr., Columbus, Ohio/Groveport Madison) recorded a 305 to finish 18th at the event. Gemma Webster (Fr., Glasgow, Scotland/Dundee University) was one stroke behind, tying for 19th as a first-year Buckeye.

Up next for Ohio State is the 2006 NCAA Regional Championships, May 11-13 at a location to be announced.

The season ends back in Columbus, Ohio, for the 2006 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships. The event will take place at The Ohio State Scarlet Course May 23-26.
