NOTING OHIO STATE

  • The Buckeyes head out on the road for the first time this season when it plays in the Play4Kay Showcase in Las Vegas, Nev.
  • OSU opens the tournament against Memphis on Thursday and then will play either DePaul or Florida Gulf Coast. The potential is there for a rematch with No. 14 Stanford.
  • Kelsey Mitchell is third in the country in scoring at 26.2 ppg and leads the country with 24 three-pointers made.
  • Mitchell is just six three-pointers away from tying Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis of UConn for the most in NCAA history. Mosqueda-Lewis holds the record at 398.
  • Stephanie Mavunga is one of six players tied for the lead nationally with four double-doubles this season. She is averaging 13.4 points and 13.8 rebounds.
  • Mavunga has swatted 14 shots which is tied for fifth nationally.
  • 5-8 guard Linnae Harper is averaging 17.8 points and 11.0 rebounds over the first three games. She had a career average of 4.9 rpg coming into the season.
  • Harper and Mavunga are the only pair of teammates in the country to each have at least three double-doubles.
  • Alexa Hart enters the weekend just nine points shy of 1,000 for her career.
  • Head coach Kevin McGuff is one win away from his 100th as Buckeye head coach.
  • OSU is averaging 10.6 three-point field goal makes per game which is 10th in the country. The Buckeyes second round opponent this weekend, DePaul and FGCU are 1-2 nationally at 14.8 and 13.8, respectively.
  • The Buckeyes were picked to win the Big Ten this season by both the media and the conference’s head coaches.
  • Mavunga and Mitchell were both named to the preseason All-Big Ten Team while Mitchell was named the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year.

Buckeyes vs. Play4Kay Field

  • Ohio State opens the tournament against Memphis and that will be the first meeting between the two programs.
  • The second round game will be against DePaul or Florida Gulf Coast. OSU is 4-2 all-time against DePaul but the most recent meeting was in 2001.
  • Ohio State and FGCU are a little more familiar, having met twice in the last three years. Both meetings came at Thanksgiving Weekend tournaments and both resulted in OSU wins. The first was a 90-83 double-overtime win in 2014 at the Paradise Jam. The second was a 79-66 victory last year at the Gulf Coast Showcase.
  • If the seeds hold true in the tournament, Ohio State and Stanford could potentially meet for the second time this month in the championship game.
