Columbus, Ohio – For the second time in three weeks, junior Sade Olatoye has been named the Big Ten Female Field Athlete of the Week.
Olatoye had another stellar sweep this past weekend at the Simmons-Harvey Quadrangular meet hosted by Michigan in Ann Arbor. A native of Dublin, Ohio, Olatoye claimed two titles at the quadrangular meet that included some stiff competition (No. 2 Arkansas and No. 17 Michigan). Her first title of the meet came in the shot put, where she recorded a mark of 15.73m (51-7.25) to edge the next closest competitor by 11 inches.
She followed that up with a dominating performance in the weight throw; the junior heaved the weight apparatus 22.76m (74-8.25) to break her prior school record of 21.73m (71-3.50) by more than three feet. The throw ranks No. 3 in the NCAA and is inside the top-15 marks to ever be recorded in the NCAA.
Both of the marks for Olatoye were facility records at Michigan’s indoor track. The 2017 Big Ten Female Indoor Field Athlete of the Year has won four events during her junior campaign. The Big Ten honor is the fourth of Olatoye’s indoor career.
Olatoye and her teammates will travel to New York, N.Y., this weekend for the Columbia Challenge at the Armory.
