Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State senior HWT Tommy Rowlands (Hilliard, Ohio/ Bishop Ready), a three-time All-American and 2002 NCAA champion, was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week Wednesday after claiming first place and Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Oklahoma Gold Classic in Brockport, N.Y. The tournament title was Rowlands’ second this season and second at the Oklahoma Gold Classic in the last two seasons.

Rowlands, now 9-0 on the season and 129-13 for his career, added the Oklahoma Gold Classic to the Michigan State Open as his titles this season, advancing through the bracket with falls in each of his first two matches before recording a 9-5 decision in the semifinal and a 3-2 win over fourth-ranked Leonce Crump of Oklahoma in the final.

With the points from his first round pin, Rowlands became the first Buckeye in program annals to record 500 team points in his career. Along with being the program’s all-time leader in team points, Rowlands stands second in career takedowns (514), fourth in career wins (129) and sixth in career falls with 14.

Rowlands and the Buckeyes next wrestle at the Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. Dec. 5-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
