COLUMBUS, Ohio-Tomeka Brown, a guard for the Ohio State women’s basketball team the last four years, had difficultly speaking after learning she was drafted in the fourth round Friday by the WNBA’s Orlando Miracle.

“I am speechless right now,” Brown said. “I feel blessed. Everyone does not get this opportunity and it has been given to me.”

Brown, a native of Columbus, Ohio, was the 55th overall pick in the four-round draft. She will begin workouts with the Miracle April 29.

She said friends already playing for Orlando would make the transition from the college game to the professional ranks easier.

“I have a lot of friends who are with Orlando,” Brown said. “I feel like I have a connection there. You can be in these situations by yourself or have someone there to support you. These are people I have looked up to my whole life.”

Adrienne Johnson, a 1996 graduate of Ohio State, and Shannon Johnson, a former player for the Columbus Quest, both are members of the Miracle.

Brown finished her Ohio State playing career with 114 games played and 76 starts. She averaged 7.2 points and 3.0 rebounds. As a senior, in which she missed five games with a sprained MCL in her left knee, she averaged 9.8 points and connected on 47 percent of her field goals (80-171) and 75 percent of her foul shots (64-85).

The Big Ten media named her to the 2002 honorable mention All-Big Ten team.

She is 11th all-time at Ohio State in career steals with 154 and is 20th in career assists with 205.
