COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior outfielder Megan Schwab was named the Big Ten Softball Player of the Week Monday, the conference announced. Schwab (Glendale, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) hit .500 (7-for-14) in six games last week, all wins for the Buckeyes, including four in the Big Ten against Illinois and 15th-ranked Northwestern.
The weekly conference award is the first for Schwab, who was a first-team all-region pick a year ago. In OSU’s six games last week, she collected a triple, her fourth home run this season, five RBI, eight runs scored and a .632 on-base percentage. Schwab went 3-for-6 in two games against Bowling Green Wednesday, 2-for-4 with a triple in the Illinois series and 2-for-4 with a home run in the doubleheader against Northwestern Sunday. Her 14 career home runs are tied for fourth-most in OSU history.
Ohio State (24-14, 6-2 Big Ten) is in third place in the Big Ten and swept back-to-back Big Ten opponents last weekend for the first time since the Buckeyes swept six consecutive league foes in 2002 on their way to a school record 55 wins.
