Columbus, Ohio – Caity Matter, who completed her senior season with the Ohio State women’s basketball team in 2004-05, signed a free-agent contract with the Charlotte Sting of the Women’s National Basketball Association this week. The all-time leader at Ohio State in three-point shooting and free-throw percentage will report to training camp with the Sting this weekend.

Matter, an honorable mention All-America selection by the Associated Press this season, was the second-leading scorer for Ohio State in 2004-05 at 13.3 points per outing. She led the Big Ten in three-point shooting with 73 makes on 164 attempts for a .445 shooting percentage from beyond the arc. She was named second-team All-Big Ten for the third time in her career after leading the league in free-throw percentage as well.

“This is something I have dreamed about since I was young,” Matter, a native of Bluffton, Ohio, said. “I am grateful for the opportunity with Charlotte and the chance to play professionally.”

Matter joins former Buckeyes Adrienne Johnson (1993-96), LaToya Turner (2000-04) and Katie Smith (1993-96) as players currently listed on WNBA rosters. Johnson is camp with the Seattle Storm and Turner is on the roster for the Phoenix Mercury. Smith, Ohio State’s all-time leading scorer, has led the Minnesota Lynx in scoring in each of the last four seasons and is the all-time leading scorer in franchise history.
