COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State synchronized swimming head coach Linda Witter and the United States National Team captured gold in the team and duet events at the 2003 Pan American Games, which took place Aug. 1-17 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Witter was selected as the squad’s assistant coach for the event.

“It was a really amazing experience,” Witter said. “For the team and for myself, it was a fabulous learning experience. I was so proud of all the girls. I have been fortunate enough to win a number of championships throughout my (Ohio State) career, but I have never had the national anthem played before. When the anthem was played for us, it was so moving and emotional.”

Several Ohio State alumni also gathered to compete at the Pan Am Games. Former Buckeye Becky Jasontek (1994-97), a four-time letterwinner and All-American at Ohio State, earned a gold medal in the team event as a member of the U.S. National Team. Twins Carolina and Isabela Moraes (1999-02) earned a bronze medal in the duet for their home country of Brazil. Leilani Torres (2000-02) and Puerto Rican teammate Luna Aguila recorded a fifth-place finish in the event.

“It was great having all of the Ohio State connections at the event,” Witter said. Even though we were competing for different countries, we always have a Buckeye connection and take pictures together.”
