COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Kellen Harkness was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week for his performances against Kenyon and Miami (Ohio), this past weekend. The men’s swimming and diving team defeated the Lords, 209-84, and the RedHawks, 165-73.
Harkness (Puyallup, Wash/Cascade Christian) completed an undefeated weekend, winning both the 1- and 3-meter events at consecutive meets. The senior recorded his first win on the 3-meter against Kenyon when he won the event by 42 points (407.70). He claimed his second victory on the 1-meter by 30 points (345.37). Harkness completed the sweep against Miami with scores of 364.50 on the 1-meter and 377.25 on the 3-meter for a 4-0 record on the boards.
“Kellen is diving at a level that I have not seen from anyone at Ohio State in a long time,” Vince Panzano, Ohio State head diving coach, said. “He is a senior that is continuing to improve and looks to have a fantastic year.”
Last season, Harkness earned All-American honors for his fifth-place finish on the 3-meter at the 2006 NCAA Championships. He also was named to the All-Big Ten second team for his second-place finish in the event at the Big Ten championships. Harkness is a three-time OSU scholar-athlete, as well a 2006 CSCAA Academic All-American. The business major was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American third team in the same year.
Ohio State returns to action Friday vs. Purdue at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The meet begins at 5 p.m.
