COLUMBUS, Ohio – John Ealy, a junior co-captain on the Ohio State men’s cross country team, qualified individually for the 2006 NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championships Monday in an announcement made by the NCAA.

Indiana State University will play host to the 2006 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships, Nov. 20, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The women’s race will begin at noon followed by the men’s race at 1:15 p.m.

A native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Ealy led the Buckeye men’s team at the 2006 Great Lakes Regional meet Saturday with a 13th-place finish. He completed the 10K course in 31:34.29. The 2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year ran in the NCAA event in 2005 and finished 71st, helping Ohio State earn 11th place, its top team score all-time.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals must qualify in their respective NCAA regions. Thirty-eight individuals, the first four athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team and two additional qualifiers, were selected to participate in each championship. All individual qualifiers must finish in the Top 25 in their region.
