COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State Volunteer Assistant Diving Coach Drew Johansen was honored as one of five finalists for the United States Olympic Committee’s Developmental Coach of the Year Award.

Johansen is the head coach and co-founder of the U.S. Elite Diving Academy. As head coach he has guided the Junior Olympic team to incredible accomplishments, including being named Junior Team Champion for the past two years. Johansen was recognized as the U.S. Diving’s Junior Olympic Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2004.

Johansen has completed his first season as the volunteer assistant coach with the Buckeyes. Prior to founding the Diving Academy and joining the Buckeye’s coaching staff, Johansen served as head coach at both Florida Atlantic University and Illinois State University. During his time at these institutions, he coached numerous All-Americans, along with a Division II national championship. He was acknowledged as Coach of the Year by the National Independent Conference three times.

Taking the Developmental Coach of the Year award was Dwayne Miller of Norfolk Real Deal Track Club of Norfolk, Va. where he has served as head coach and co-director.

Johansen is a 1992 graduate of Arizona State University. He was also a member of the United States National Diving team in 1996.
