COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Alex Bailey was named Big Ten men’s cross country runner of the week Tuesday by the conference office. Bailey helped the Buckeyes successfully defend their All-Ohio men’s team title Saturday by taking second-place overall, which serves as a career-best performance.

Bailey finished the 8-kilometer course in Delaware, Ohio in 25:56.6, which served as a career-best time. The Columbus native is the second Buckeye this season to win the weekly conference award.

Despite sitting four of its tops runners, the Buckeye men’s team won the team event, topping second-place Ohio University by a 64-75 count.

The Ohio State men’s team runs at the 2005 NCAA Pre-National Meet Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. The women’s squad will run separately at the 2005 National Invitational in State College, Pa.
