On the Board
At the Kentucky Fall Invitational last weekend, several of the Buckeye freshmen competed and got their first career wins – Julie Blackmore, Sara Kinning, who redshirted last season, Angela DiPastina, Olga Koutseridi and Julie Voss. Also getting her first win as a Buckeye was Ciara Finucane, a transfer from Georgia Southern.
Senior Emily Howard ended the Kentucky tournament on a roll, winning her last three matches to win the Flight D consolation bracket.
In Flight A doubles, the tandem of Ciara Finucane and Julie Blackmore ended the tourney with three consecutive victories, including a win over teammates Caitlin O’Keefe and Julie Voss, Sunday. Three’s a Charm
The Buckeyes were a combined 7-1 in matches that went to a third set in the Kentucky tournament. Julie Voss won two three-set matches, while Julie Blackmore, Caitlin O’Keefe, Kristin Messmer, Angela DiPastina and Olga Koutseridi all won a match in three sets.
A number of Buckeyes will return to action at the ITA Midwest Regional Oct. 20-25 in East Lansing, Mich. After that event, the Buckeyes will travel to Hanover, N.H., for the Big Green Invitational hosted by Dartmouth Oct. 29-Oct. 31.
ITA Comes to Columbus
The Buckeyes will be hosting the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Indoor Championships. The ITA National Indoor tournament is a prestigious men’s and women’s event that will include matches in both singles and doubles. The event will take place Nov 3-6 at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships are the second of three national tournaments for singles and doubles during the collegiate tennis season. Host Ohio State has had champions each of the last two years: Jeremy Wurtzman in 2003 (singles) and Scott Green and Ross Wilson last year in doubles.
“We’re delighted Ohio State will be hosting this special event these next two years,” ITA Executive Director David A Benjamin said. “I’ve seen and heard nothing but great things about the university and the Racquet Club of Columbus and know this will be a great site for the event. Tennis fans in the Columbus area are in for a real treat.”
