COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association named Ohio State women’s ice hockey freshman goaltender Erika Vanderveer defensive player of the week for leading the Buckeyes to a 4-0 shutout over Bemidji State Nov. 22. The victory extended Ohio State’s winning streak to four games and marked its second consecutive series sweep.

The Bradford, Ontario, native earned her second consecutive shutout in her second game in net for the Buckeyes. En route to her second win of the season, Vanderveer recorded 33 saves, just one shy of junior Melissa Glaser’s 2003-04 season high. Vanderveer never has allowed a goal as a Buckeye, tallying 49 saves in two games this season. This marks Vanderveer’s second weekly league award in a row. November 16, she was named WCHA Rookie of the Week.

Ohio State plays host to the Niagara Purple Eagles at 2:05 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in its first non-conference series of the season at OSU Ice Rink. Ohio State is 5-5-0 overall and in the WCHA this season.
