Columbus, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State women’s basketball team have accepted an invitation to serve as Grand Marshall of the 2005 Pickerington Violet Festival. The Buckeyes will lead the ceremonial parade through downtown Pickerington, Ohio, starting at 7 p.m. Friday, July 29. The parade begins at Pickerington Central High School and ends at Pickerington’s Ridgeview Junior High.

Sophomore guard Marscilla Packer, a product of Pickerington High School, will be among seven OSU players in attendance. Seniors Ashley Allen (Indianapolis/Ben Davis), Candace Dark (Kingman, Ind./ Fountain Central), Debbie Merrill (Cumberland City, Tenn./Montgomery) and Kim Wilburn (Southfield, Mich./Detroit Country Day) also will help lead the procession, as will Packer’s classmates Alice Jamen (So., Yaounde, Cameroon/Mount de Chantal) and Tamarah Riley (So., Detroit, Mich./St. Martin DePorres).

The Buckeyes are being honored by the Pickerington community for their record-setting season in 2004-05 that included a program-best 30 wins en route to a share of the team’s first Big Ten championship since 1993.

Pete Gaudet, a former assistant coach for the past three seasons and current video coordinator, also will accompany the seven members of the team at the festival.
