Senior guard Caity Matter
On the offseason
“There are always parts of my game that I need to work on. One thing I really concentrated on was conditioning. The upperclassman also helped the freshman learned the college system and helped them adjust to the speed of the game. They have transitioned well and we are excited to get started.”

On starting official practice
“We have really been itching the past two weeks, since Saturday (Oct. 16 and the first official day of practice) has really been in our sights. I think the freshmen are a little nervous but they will be fine. Everyone is ready to go.”

Senior guard Beth Howe
On her expectations
“We expect to come out and compete every day. If we practice hard, we will be better than we were yesterday and tomorrow we will be better than we were today. That will help us get closer to our goals at the end of the season.

On the freshman class
“They came in during the summer and we had great workouts. Everyone has worked really hard and it’s going to be a competitive year.

On the team’s depth
“We have a lot of depth and that can only help us. We’re excited to start practices and are ready to play the game and compete.”

Junior forward Michelle Muñoz
On the team’s goals for this season
“We just want to be the best we can possibly be. Every time we step on the court to practice we have to give 100 percent. Whatever I can do to help my team win and get better, I will do.

On being picked as the preseason Big Ten champion by the coaches
“It really is a nice honor but everyone has an opinion. We have been working hard but we haven’t even started official practice yet. We just have to take it one game at a time, but we are really excited about the season.” Sophomore center Jessica Davenport
On being picked as the preseason Big Ten champion by the coaches
“It’s an honor but we know we have to take it one practice at a time, one win at a time. We are ready to work hard and get things done.

On being a member of the Big Ten Foreign Team this past summer
“It was a lot of fun. I had the opportunity to go to Australia and I don’t know if I would have ever had that in my life. I was able to play with a lot of good basketball players from around the Big Ten and we matched against some good Australian teams. I also got to do some sightseeing … I saw the Sydney Opera House and I even saw a kangaroo.”
