COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s basketball player Caity Matter was named the Big Ten Player of the Week Monday. A junior guard from Bluffton, Ohio, Matter averaged 25.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the Buckeyes’ two upsets over ranked teams last week. She shot a combined 18-of-26 (.692) from the field, 10-of-15 (.667) from 3-point land and 5-of-6 (.833) from the free-throw line. This is the first Big Ten Player of the Week award for a Buckeye player this season and the second such honor for Matter during her Ohio State career.

Against No. 10/10 Minnesota Thursday, Matter led all scorers with a career-high 28 points, including a 24-point first-half effort. She was 11-of-15 from the field, 4-for-6 from behind the 3-point line and made both free throws she attempted. Matter also grabbed seven boards, dished three assists and tallied two steals.

At No. 15/17 Michigan State Sunday, Matter scored 23 points off a 7-of-11 stroke and a 6-of-9 afternoon from downtown. She was 3-of-4 from the charity stripe, pulled down four rebounds and had one steal. Entering the game vs. the Spartans, Matter needed one trey to move to third on the Ohio State records list for career 3-pointers made. Her total now is 186 career 3-pointers drained.

The Buckeyes are 15-8 overall and 7-5 in league play. Ohio State plays host to Northwestern at 7 p.m. Thursday in St. John Arena.
