Ohio State wins an NCAA Regional for the first time since theswitch to the Regional format. The Buckeyes last advanced to theCollege World Series in 1967. They won the District 4 Playoffs thatyear to move on to Omaha.
%^$ In Ohio States two games against Mississippi State, Tom Durantwent 7-10, scored two runs and had two RBI.
%^$ OSU starting pitcher Andy Lee faced 33 batters and went to afull count only twice. He started the count with a strike to 16 ofthose batters.
%^$ Eight of the nine Buckeyes in the lineup scored at least onerun. Two players – Jason Driscoll and Matt Middleton – scoredtwice.

Mississippi State was eliminated from a Regional for the firsttime since 1996. They had advanced to the College World Series twostraight years (1997 and 98).
%^$ The six runs allowed by MSU starting pitcher Scott Polk was aseason-high. He retired the first 10 batters he faced before givingup five runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.
%^$ Junior Travis Chapman homered and singled this afternoon andnow has 99 hits in his Mississippi State career.
%^$ Justin Estel pitched 3.1 innings today and retired 10 of the 11hitters he faced. In the series, Estel pitched 4.2 innings andallowed only one hit, one walk and no runs.%^$
