COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey team secured a Top 4 finish in the Big Ten standings over the weekend and will host a Big Ten Tournament first round best-of-three series in Value City Arena. Games 1 and 2 are set for March 2 and 3, with game three, if necessary, scheduled for March 4. Game time each night is 7 p.m.
Tickets for the first round games at Ohio State will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Thursday. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students/youth. Ohio State students are admitted free with a BuckID. Group tickets are available for $8 each for groups of 10 or more.
Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or in person at the Ohio State Athletics Ticket office. For group tickets, fans can call the Ohio State Ticket Sales Team at 1-800-GOBUCKS (select option 2) or email AthleticSales@osu.edu.
The three first round winners will advance to the single game semifinal round March 10. Notre Dame, as the tournament’s No. 1 seed, receives a first round bye and will host one of the semifinal games (against the lowest remaining seed). The highest remaining seed from the first round winners will host the other advancing team in the semifinals. The highest remaining team after the semifinals will host the championship game March 17. The tournament winner receives the Big Ten’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The Buckeyes are 19-7-4 overall this season and 12-7-1-0 in the Big Ten, standing in second place. The squad leads the NCAA on the penalty kill (.904), is sixth in scoring defense (2.17 goals allowed per game), 11th on the power play (.226) and tied for 15th in scoring offense (3.13 goals per game). Three of the Top 7 scorers in the Big Ten are Buckeyes – sophomore Tanner Laczynski (37 points), senior Matthew Weis (33) and junior Mason Jobst (30). Junior goalie Sean Romeo ranks in the Top 11 in the NCAA in goals-against average (2.10) and save percentage (.925).
Two weeks remain in the regular season. Ohio State will play two games at Minnesota this weekend, facing off at 9 p.m. ET Friday on BTN and at 5 p.m. ET Saturday on ESPNU.
The final regular season home series is against Wisconsin Feb. 23-24, with puck drop at 7 p.m. each night. Script Ohio on Ice will be performed during the first intermission of game one and the night will start with Hockey Hour from 6-7, with activities on the concourse and drink discounts at the concession stands. Game two is Senior Night for the squad’s six seniors and it is First Responders Appreciation Night.
