COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State scored three runs in the fourth and added six runs in the fifth as it cruised to a 10-3 victory over Eastern Michigan in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday at Bill Davis Stadium. The win improved Ohio State to 19-14 overall.

Ohio State scored first when Steve Caravati (Sr., Dover, Ohio/Dover) crossed the plate in the bottom of the second on an infield single by Jedidiah Stephen (Jr., Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah). Eastern Michigan tied the game in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out, solo home run by Ryan Arnett, who put a ball in the wind and over the right field fence.

The Buckeyes reclaimed the lead in the home half of the fourth inning taking benefit from a pair of walks and two hits. Ronnie Bourquin (So., Canton, Ohio/Canton South) led off the inning with a walk and then after a ground out by Caravati, Cody Caughenbaugh (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) walked. Jason Zoeller (So., Verona, Pa./Shady Side Academy) loaded the bases with a single to right. Stephen scored Bourquin with a sac fly to right and then Paul Farinacci (Sr., Westlake Village, Calif./Agoura) delivered two more runs with a double down the left-field line to give the Buckeyes a 4-1 lead.

Six runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning. Jacob Howell (So., Ashland, Ohio/Ashland, Ohio) got things started with his second triple of the season and the sixth of his career. Mike Rabin (Sr., West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) doubled him in to build a four-run lead. Reliever Tim Gray hit Bourquin and then a bunt-for-base hit by Caravati loaded the bases. Zoeller doubled down the left-field line to score two and then Stephen launched his fifth home run of the season off the scoreboard in right-center field to score three more. A fly out and a ground out ended the inning.

Eastern Michigan scored two more runs in the sixth getting four straight hits off OSU reliever Jeffrey Carroll (So., Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) to start the inning.

Cory Luebke (Fr., Maria Stein, Ohio/Marion Local) made the start for Ohio State and went three innings in the abbreviated start. He struck out two and gave up only one hit before yielding to Mike Madsen (Sr., Canfield, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin). Madsen pitched two innings and picked up the victory to move to 3-3 on the year. He gave up one run on two hits and struck out three batters. Carroll faced four batters in the sixth, giving up two runs on four hits and one walk before giving way to Rory Meister (Fr., Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Madison) who pitched the final two innings of the game.

George Biddle, a graduate of Newark Catholic, started the game for Eastern Michigan. He gave up the first Ohio State run, which was unearned and went only three innings in his short start. He gave way to Bob Lothian, who got the loss to fall to 2-1.

The Buckeye pounded out 11 hits to score 10 runs. Rabin was 3-for-3 in his second straight three-hit game and third in his last five games. Caravati and Zoeller each went 2-for-3, while Stephen was 2-for-2 with five RBI. Three different Eagles had two hits and Matt Moffett added the other.
