COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State University men’s swimming and diving swept the Big Ten Conference weekly awards this week as senior sprint freestyler Matt Voelker and freshman diver Sean Moore were named Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. 

Voelker, an engineering major from Upper Arlington, claimed two first-place finishes last week in a 147-82 victory over Cleveland State. He set team season-best times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, touching the wall at 20.74 and 45.63, respectively. This marks Voelker’s first career weekly Big Ten honor and the first for an Ohio State swimmer since R.J. Lemyre was honored Nov. 29, 2005.

Moore, from Englewood, Colo., swept the diving competitions to garner his first and second collegiate wins in Ohio State’s win over Cleveland State.  His winning score of 357.82 from the one-meter board posted a margin of victory of nearly 18 points over the second-place finisher.  The freshman’s three-meter performance yielded a mark of 404.10. Ohio State’s last Big Ten Diver of the Week: current junior Burkley Showe (Jan. 9, 2007).

Ohio State, 4-0 on the dual meet season, will host the third annual Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. Men’s and women’s competitors from 13 universities are scheduled to compete, including student-athletes from Notre Dame, South Carolina, Denver, Iowa, Michigan State, Illinois and Minnesota, Alabama, Arizona State, Bowling Green, Purdue and Miami, Fla..
