COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team suffered a 2-0 defeat to No. 4 Wisconsin Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio. With the loss the Buckeyes fall to 3-2 overall and in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The Badgers extend their winning streak to five games and three in the WCHA.

Ohio State and Wisconsin will complete the series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.

“It was a good game tonight,” Jackie Barto, Ohio State head coach, said. “Our goal for tomorrow is to do the little things, win more battles and generate more scoring opportunities.”

The first period ended scoreless for both teams. Ohio State had several chances, but could not get the puck past UW’s goalie Meghan Horras. The Buckeyes posted four shots to the Badgers eight.

Wisconsin scored the first goal of the game at 15:31 in the second period. Badger center Nikki Burish scored an unassisted goal to give UW a 1-0 lead. Ohio State attempted to tie the game at 17:25 with a breakaway by Meaghan Mulvaney (Sr., Sylvania, Ohio). UW’s Horras held the Buckeyes scoreless once again. Wisconsin outshot Ohio State 11-2 in the stanza.

Lindsay Macy put the Badgers ahead by two with a power-play goal at 8:11 in the third period. UW’s Sharon Cole and Molly Engstrom each had a hand in the goal. With 1:32 to go in the game, Wisconsin’s Jackie Friesen received a penalty for tripping, giving OSU its seventh power play of the game. Ohio State immediately called a timeout and pulled its goalie Melissa Glaser five seconds later to take a six on four advantage. The Buckeyes were unsuccessful and suffered their first shut out of the season. Ohio State goalie Melissa Glaser (Sr., Rockford, Ill.) played 58:47 minutes in net recording 29 saves on 31 shots, just one shy of her season-high 30 saves. Wisconsin’s goalie Horras played the full 60 minutes in net, posting 12 saves.

The Badgers tallied 31 shots to the Buckeyes’ 12. Ohio State held Wisconsin scoreless on four-of-five power-play chances. OSU was 0-for-7 on the power play.
