COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the latest set of spring Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, Ohio State remains in second place behind recent Top 5 finishes from the men’s lacrosse, women’s golf, rowing and men’s and women’s tennis teams. Stanford still claims the top spot in the standings followed by Ohio State, Michigan, USC and North Carolina.
The men’s lacrosse Buckeyes advanced to the program’s first NCAA final behind all-tournament selections Tom Carey and Tre Leclaire while Ben Randall, Jake Withers, Eric Fannell, Ryan Terefenko, Carey and Leclaire each garnered USILA All-America honors. Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams earned third-place finishes as the women’s tennis team went 32-3, setting the program record for wins in a season to advance to the NCAA semifinals for the first time in program history, and the men’s tennis team posted a 33-4 overall mark en route to its fourth NCAA semifinal in school history. In addition, Miho Kowase and Francesco Di Lorenzo won the NCAA Doubles championship, marking the first NCAA championship in Ohio State women’s tennis history.
The Ohio State women’s golf team finished 54 holes of stroke play in fourth place and advanced to match play to match the program’s best standing at the NCAA Championships. Also, the women’s rowing team battled back to earn a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships in New Jersey, marking the 11th time in 18 trips to the NCAA regatta that the Buckeyes have earned a Top 5 finish.
The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA’s website at www.directorscup.org.
