COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team (0-0-0; 0-0-0 WCHA) defeated the Etobicoke Dolphins, 9-1, in exhibition action Sunday at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio. Junior Jana Harrigan led the way with a hat trick and two assists. Senior alternate captain Jeni Creary and freshman Mallory Peckels recorded three points each.

Ohio State posted the lone goal of the first period. Buckeye Jana Harrigan (Burlington, Ontario) scored a shorthanded unassisted goal on a breakaway at 8:06. OSU outshot the Dolphins 20-3 in the first period.

In the second stanza, the Buckeyes added two additional goals to take a 3-0 lead. Freshman Mallory Peckels (Minocqua, Wis.) scored at 10:34 assisted by Harrigan. Senior Jeni Creary (Shell Lake, Saskatchewan) followed with a goal at 15:31 assisted by Peckels and Harrigan. Ohio State posted 15 shots to Etobicoke’s six in the period.

OSU scored six goals in third period as freshman Jody Heywood (Regina, Saskatchewan) got OSU rolling at 2:20 assisted by Crystal Sayther (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.). The Buckeyes followed with three goals in four minutes. Freshman Lisa Chesson (Plainfield, Ill.) made her mark on the board with a goal at 3:21 assisted by Shebly Aldous (Fr., LaSalle, Ontario). Harrigan tallied two goals, recording her first hat trick. Etobicoke’s Britney Selina scored the Dolphins lone goal of the game at 13:05. Ohio State followed with two power-play goals by Jaclyn Haines (Rossland, British Columbia) and Sayther to end the game. OSU goalies Melissa Glaser (Sr., Rockford, Ill.) and Erika Vanderveer (So., Bradford, Ontario) shared time in the net – Glaser played the first 30:24 recording six of six saves and Vanderveer played the final 29:36 stopping nine of 10 shots. Both Etobicoke goalies saw time in the net Melissa Haber stopped 28-of-30 shots and Lisa Plenderleith stopped 18-of-25 Buckeye chances.

The Buckeyes outshot the Dolphins 55-16. OSU held Etobicoke scoreless on all six power-play chances. OSU was 2-for-11 on the power-play.

Ohio State begins conference action against St. Cloud State at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio.
