COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eric Meloche, Scott Titus and Neal Rech each scored goals during a span of 9:11 in the second period as Ohio State broke open a scoreless game en route to a 3-1 win over Western Michigan before 8,793 at Value City Arena on Friday night.

Jeff Maund was once again superb in goal for the Buckeyes, stopping 26 of the 27 Western Michigan shots. In his last four starts, Maund has allowed just four goals, while stopping 118 shots.

Hugo Boisvert added an assist on the Meloche goal and leads the CCHA in overall scoring (17-21-38) and is tied for the lead in conference scoring (10-18-28). He is currently riding a nine-game point-scoring streak.

Ohio State improves to 12-6-3 in the CCHA and 14-10-4 overall, while Western Michigan, on a season-high six game losing streak, falls to 2-12-6 in league play and 3-15-6 overall. The two teams return to action Saturday night at Value City Arena for a 7 p.m. game.

Ohio State shut out the WMU power-play in five attempts, meaning the Buckeyes have now successfully killed 35-of-35 opponent power-plays in Value City Arena.

Titus’s goal, the eventual game-winner, was the first of his collegiate career.
