Senior Haley Brown leads the Buckeyes with career-low 54-hole total of 218
COLUMBUS, Ohio Led by three Buckeyes in the Top 20, the Ohio State women’s golf team posted its highest finish of the season as runner-up at the Indiana Invitational with a team total of 894 (+30) Tuesday in Carmel, Ind. Senior Haley Brown led the Buckeyes with her second round of 71 of the tournament as the team carded a final round of 299 and take second by four strokes over Illinois. Fellow Big Ten foe and sixth-ranked Purdue ran away with the event, winning by 42 strokes with a score of 852.
Along with Illinois, Ohio State also bested conference opponents Michigan (7th), Indiana (8th), Northwestern (9th), Iowa (10th), Minnesota (13th) and Penn State (14th). The second-place finish is the highest by the Buckeyes since taking second at the 2006 Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1).
Senior Haley Brown led Ohio State in the player standings placing eighth at 2-over 218, a career-low 54-hole score. Brown, from Austin, Texas, sandwiched a second round of 76 between two rounds of 71 in the event. Her third round including a solid 13 pars and three birdies. The eighth-place finish is the highest for Brown as a Buckeye after transferring from Portland State following her sophomore season.
Also in the Top 20 was Emma Jandel, who concluded the Indiana Invitational in a tie for 13th for her best finish of the season. The sophomore from Dayton, Ohio, finished her third round by making par on 10 of the last 11 holes and carded a 76 to add to her previous rounds of 75-72 for a total of 223 (+7).
Senior Carling Coffing birdied her final hole Tuesday for a 2-over 74 and tied for 20th with a score of 226. The Middletown, Ohio, native bounced back from a second-round of 80 and moved up eight spots during the final day of competition.
Rounding out the Ohio State competitors were junior Gemma Webster and freshman In Hong Lim. Webster shot a final round of 78 and tied for 33rd at 231, while Lim shot a 79 and tied for 40th at 233.
Competing as an individual at the Indiana Invitational was junior Jessica Hauser, who fired a third round of even-par 72 and tied for 20th with a total of 226.
Up next, the Buckeyes will conclude their regular-season schedule by hosting the 28th-Annual Lady Buckeye Invitational, April 19-20 at Scarlet Course in Columbus.
