COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rowing team received a bid to the 2004 NCAA Championships May 28-30 at CSUS Aquatic Center in Sacramento, Calif., the NCAA Division I Women’s Rowing Committee announced Tuesday.

The selection comes following OSU’s performance over the weekend at the 2004 South/Central Regional Championships where the team won its second consecutive central regional title.

The Buckeyes will be making their fifth consecutive appearance at the NCAA championships. Last season, OSU finished eighth overall as a team. The Buckeyes’ first varsity eight finished third in the Petite Final for a ninth-place national finish, while the second varsity eight ended its season sixth and the first varsity four finished fourth as a team. Ohio State finished fifth in 2002, fourth in 2001 and ninth in 2000.

The NCAA team championship is comprised of 12 teams, with each team consisting of two eight-member boats and one four-member boat. In addition, four eight-member boats from institutions not represented in the team competition were selected at-large.

The selection of teams and individual boats was based on eligibility and availability of student-athletes, regional championship results, regional rankings, late-season performance, head-to-head results, results against teams/boats already selected, results against common opponents, and results against regionally ranked teams/boats. One team from each region was selected and the remaining seven teams were selected at-large.
