COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Department of Athletics and Andy Geiger were honored with one of four 2004 EXPY Awards by Experience Columbus March 24 held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center for its role in hosting the 2004 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships First and Second Rounds.

EXPY Awards are given annually to local individuals, businesses and organizations that demonstrate outstanding creativity, commitment and cooperative spirit by presenting unique events, attractions or marketing initiatives that attract visitors to Columbus.

The first and second round games of the Division I Men’s Championship were held at Nationwide Arena March 19 and 21, while the first and second round games of the Division I Women’s Championship were held at St. John Arena March 20 and 22. Columbus was the only city in the nation to host the men’s and women’s games on the same weekend in 2004 and the first city to host both since 1993. The tournaments brought big business to Columbus hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions and entertainment districts and put the community in the national spotlight.
