Ohio State men’s and women’s track and field teams opened up competition Friday at the 2006 Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville Tenn. The meet is hosted by the University of Tennessee and is being held on Tom Black track.

The men’s team was led on Friday by the outdoor debut of freshman Jeff See. See finished fifth in the 1,500m with regional qualifying mark of 3:45.39. The women’s team was lead by Jessica Stringer second place finish in the high jump. Stringer’s jump of 5-10 is a season best and also qualifies her NCAA regional championships.

Also for the women in the field senior Keturah Lofton took fourth with a toss of 189-10. This throw also qualifies her NCAA regional championships. On the track, for the women both Jenna Harris and Ayrizanna Favours hit regional NCAA qualifying marks with there marks of 11.73 and 11.75 respectfully.

In the men’s 3,000m Steeplechase Matt Winebar came in fourth with a time of 9:41.10.The men’s team also got a strong showing from Tony Cole as he came in seventh. Cole’s time of 10.43 also qualifies him NCAA regional championships.

In the field for the men Brandon Cathcart hit a regional qualifying mark while taking eighth place with a leap of 50-11.5 Zach Carr came in ninth in the discus throw with a toss of 161-0.

Elon Simms also had a solid showing with a 22nd place finish in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 53.64. The Buckeyes continue competition at the Sea Ray Relays Saturday.
