Northwestern Head Coach June Olkowski

“Ohio State really did not do anything that we did not expect today. They played a good inside game and their good shooters shot well. We knew they had good shooters coming in and we knew who they were, but we were unable to stop them. On offense, we did not react to Ohio State going to zone very well and we lost some opportunities by turning the ball over. They had 15 more scoring opportunities than we did in the first half and when you play a team coached by Jim Foster you cannot do that and expect to win the game.”

“Things are different in practice and it is hard to simulate Ohio State’s quickness. You have to change offense for zones and man (-to-man) defenses and we did not respond to any change in defenses well today. We took quick shots and they went in transition off of the rebounds and scored well on the fast break.”

“No one has been able to stop (Ohio State’s Courtney) Coleman all year. With Ohio State’s ability to shoot the three, it opens things up for her under the basket. Ohio State extends the defense well. They are a tough offense to stop.”

Ohio State Head Coach Jim Foster

“I though we took good shots today. We spend a lot of time talking to our players about taking shots that play to their individual strengths and they did that for the most part today.” On the play of Ohio State’s defense “We are a team with a great deal of quickness and we use it in a lot of different forms on defense. We played both man (-to-man) and zone today. They were getting some shots while we were in man (-to-man), so we switched to zone and forced them to take shots that we wanted them to take.”

On stopping Northwestern forward Sarah Kwasinski

“We made sure that we knew where she was on the floor at all time. She is a very good player and we just had to know where she was at all times.”

Ohio State guard Caity Matter

On coming out strong in the second half

“We knew that we needed to be as intense in the second half as we were in the first half. We have had some let downs in the second half this season, but we came out intense in both periods today.”

Ohio State forward Courtney Coleman

On her solid play vs. Northwestern

“I think it was a combination of good feeds down low and good post position. They were not double teaming me, so I just turned and hit most of my shots.” On winning the first conference game of the season “It is very important to win the first Big Ten game. It is very important to start the conference season on the right foot. We go up and play them again next week, so the season will get tougher. Today was a great start and we just want to continue winning.”
