COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team is No. 15 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll released Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Maryland, who the Buckeyes will face Sept. 2, enters the year ranked No. 1 with 17 first-place votes after winning the national title last season.
Five Big Ten programs received votes in the 2012 preseason standings with Penn State (9) leading the way followed by Michigan (10), Iowa (12), Ohio State (15) and Northwestern (20).
The first regular-season poll will be released Sept. 4. At that point, the Buckeyes will have four games under their belt with all four contests away from Columbus. Ohio State will then travel to Washington, D.C., the following week to face American Aug. 31 before facing the No. 1 Terrapins in College Park, Md.
In all, eight of Ohio State’s 2012 opponents made the Top 20 preseason poll with three ranked in the Top 10.
Head coach Anne Wilkinson, who is in her 17th season at the helm of the Buckeyes and her 26th overall, enters the 2012 campaign with nine starters returning from a program that advanced to its third-consecutive NCAA Tournament last year.
