Sophomore Rachel Rohanna leads Buckeyes with tie for 15th

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Firing its lowest round of the tournament, the Ohio State women’s golf team moved up two slots to conclude the Central District Invitational in seventh with a total of 895. Improving by 12 strokes, the Buckeyes carded a third round score of 290 (+2) at the par 72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla.

Iowa State shot up to conclude the tournament atop the leaderboard with a total of 868 (+4) after notching a final round of 5-under 283. The Cyclones placed three athletes in the Top 10 and took a nine-stroke advantage over second-place LSU who found a medalist in Austin Ernst who totaled 213 (-3) after 54 holes.  

After back-to-back rounds of 74, sophomore co-captain Rachel Rohanna shed a stroke in the final round to lead Ohio State in a tie for 15th at 221. The Waynesburg, Pa., native’s 1-over round of 73 included three bogeys that were offset by birdies on hole Nos. 4 and 18.  

Also carding a round of 73 was junior Vicky Villanueva. The Chacabuco, Argentina, product was 1-under through 10 holes, but slipped with a double-bogey on hole No. 18. She would go on to make par on eight-consecutive holes to conclude the tournament tied for 19th at 223.

Sophomore Amy Meier, from Rochester Hills, Mich., notched the Buckeyes’ low-round of the tournament after improving by seven strokes to end round three with a score of 1-under 71. Finishing tied for 30th at 226, Meier’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5, 480-yard No. 4 hole.

Sophomore Susana Benavides, of Cochabamba, Bolivia, tied for 41st after a steady round of 76 that included two birdies. 

Tallying rounds of 82 and 78 in day one, senior co-captain In Hong Lim had a complete turnaround in day two with a score of 73. The Melbourne, Australia, native ended the event tied for 59th.

The Buckeyes will be back in action March 6-7 when they return to Florida for the SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational in Gainesville.
