COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s lacrosse team will host the MRB Buckeye Classic Oct. 1. The event features the Buckeyes taking on Maryland, a 2005 NCAA semifinalist, and the Michigan club varsity team. Butler also will take on the Wolverines and Terps. Games will be held on the Woody Hayes Athletic Center indoor field and at North Turf Field.

The event is named in honor of Michael R. Breschi, the late son of Ohio State head coach Joe Breschi, who died in March 2004 at age 3 in an accident.

Admission is $5 and proceeds from the event will go toward the Michael Breschi Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund at Ohio State. The scholarship is awarded annually to a member of the Buckeye men’s lacrosse team.

“Putting this tournament together is a great way to keep Michael’s memory alive,” Breschi said. “With quality teams like Maryland, Michigan and Butler participating, it will be a wonderful event and a great experience for everyone involved.

“I appreciate Maryland, a `Final Four’ team last year, coming out from the East Coast; it’s great to have a team of that caliber participate. Coach (Dave) Cottle is a great friend and has a terrific program. We’re excited to have them visit Columbus.

“This is the first meeting between Ohio State and Michigan on the lacrosse field in many years. The matchup should be a fan favorite.”
