COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sixteen games in Value City Arena, including contests against Central Collegiate Hockey Association foes Michigan and Michigan State, highlight the 2003-04 Ohio State men’s hockey schedule. The Buckeyes’ schedule also includes 16 road games and two neutral-site tournaments.

The CCHA again will use clusters, with three groups of four teams, for scheduling. The teams that make up each cluster will face each other four times (twice at home and twice on the road). Each team will face the eight squads outside its cluster twice. The Buckeyes are joined by Miami, Michigan and Michigan State in their 2003-04 cluster.

The Buckeyes open their season with one of the earliest tournaments of the year, as they travel to Dayton, Ohio, for the Lefty McFadden College Hockey Invitational Oct. 3-4. Ohio State will take on Denver in the first round, while the host Miami RedHawks will face St. Lawrence. The second day of the tournament will feature championship and consolation games.

Following the tournament, the Buckeyes open conference action with a two-game series against Notre Dame at home and a trip to face Michigan State for a pair of games. The Buckeyes then open a three-game homestand, with a non-conference contest vs. Mercyhurst and a two-game set against Alaska Fairbanks.

After a trip to Marquette to face Northern Michigan, the Buckeyes return to Value City Arena to take on rival Michigan, a 2003 NCAA Frozen Four participant, for two games (Nov. 14-15). Four of the Buckeyes’ next five games will be on the road, with single games at Cornell (a 2003 Frozen Four participant), Colgate and Bowling Green before a home-and-home series with Miami.

After a two-week break, the Buckeyes return to action at the Everblades College Classic in Estero, Fla. Ohio State, making its fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament, is joined by Notre Dame, Cornell and Maine. OSU faces the Black Bears in the first round.

The Buckeyes will play host to Quinnipiac at home Jan. 6 before closing out the regular season with 15 consecutive CCHA contests. The team will travel to Michigan before a four-game homestand featuring Lake Superior State and Michigan State. A home series with Nebraska-Omaha is sandwiched between two-game trips to Big Rapids, Mich., to face defending CCHA regular-season champion Ferris State and to Kalamazoo, Mich., to take on the Western Michigan Broncos. Ohio State’s regular season ends with a home-and-home series with Miami March 5-6.

All 12 CCHA teams will qualify for postseason play, with the top six seeds playing host to the bottom six seeds in best-of-three series. The winners advance to Joe Louis Arena and the CCHA Super Six Championship. Play-in games will be held Thursday, March 18, with the semifinals Friday, March 19 and the championship game Saturday, March 20. The winner of the tournament earns the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA championship.
