COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team is seventh of 12 teams at the Fossum Invitational following the first two rounds. The Buckeyes recorded a total of 588 (292+296) at the par 72, 7,013-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich., Saturday. Indiana leads the event at 575 (292-283). Michigan State is the host school for this event.
Ohio State’s David Vallina (Sr., Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettestown) shot a season low 71 (-1) during the opening round. He recorded the Buckeyes’ best shot with an eagle on par-5 No. 8 hole. Colin Biles (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Brandon Markiw (Fr., Edmonton, Alberta/McNally Composite) were two strokes behind Vallina. The score tied Markiw’s lowest round this season.
Vallina had the best second-round for the Buckeyes, shooting even par. He finished at 143 to tie for sixth individually. Biles shot a one-over-par (73) for a total of 146. He is tied for 13th on the leaderboard. Charlie Soule of Denver and Chris Wilson of Northwestern are tied for first with 138.
The final round of the Fossum Invitational will be contested Sunday.
