COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite already wet conditions and numerous rain delays at The Ohio State University Golf Club Saturday, the entire 11-team field completed the first and second rounds of the 2011 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on the par 71, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course.

The Buckeyes closed out with a two-round score of 576 (+8) for first place. The Scarlet and Gray finished one stroke ahead of Big Ten foe Illinois and Kent State who are tied for second. Vince India of Iowa will look to hold on to the overall lead after rounds of 71 and 67 to put him at 4-under for the event.

Ohio State was led by the play of seniors Brad Smith and Michael Cress at 1-over 143 and tied for sixth. Smith shot rounds of 2-under 69 and 3-over 74 to keep him near the top of the leader board for much of the day. Cress carded a pair of consistent rounds that resulted in scores of even-par 71 and 1-over 72.

Not far off the pace was Jamie Sindelar in a tie for 11th place at 4-over 146. The sophomore struggled through the latter part of the first round, posting a 3-over 74. A quick recovery during the afternoon session moved Sindelar closer to the top-10 as he finished with a 1-over 72 in the second round.

Junior Dan Charen began the day on rocky footing, posting a double-bogey on his first hole. Charen recovered quickly by notching two quick birdies, finishing the opening round with an even-par 71.  At one point during the second round, Charen tallied 12-consecutive pars before a rough stretch at the conclusion sent him to a 5-over 76. The Langhorne, Pa., native will head into the final round in 15th place with a 5-over 147.

Rounding out the effort for Ohio State was senior Bo Hoag at 6-over 148. Rounds of 4-over 75 and 2-over 73 put the Upper Arlington, Ohio, native in a tie for 16th place.

Ohio State also had seven golfers competing as individuals. Junior Alex Redfield’s 3-over 145 performance was good enough to put the Columbus, Ohio, native into a tie for ninth place. Junior Michael Kinkopf and sophomore Zack Sobel each shot 8-over 150 to tie for 26th while Matt Turner’s 11-over 153 was good for a 39th-place tie with teammate Tanner Murphy.  Evan Wood also shot a 155 to tie for 48th as Gary Quinn posted a 156 to tie for 50th.

Round three kicks off Sunday with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. on holes one and 10 from The Ohio State University Golf Club.
