Three Buckeyes in top 5 after 18 holes
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After 18 holes of play, the 21st-ranked Ohio State women’s golf team sits atop the leaderboard Saturday at its own Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational. Competing at home on the par 72, 6,275-yard Scarlet Course, the Buckeyes fired an opening round of 304 to sit 12 strokes ahead of second-place Northwestern.
The sun was out in Columbus, but cool temperatures and steady wind made for challenging conditions.
Leading the Buckeyes after round one is freshman Susana Benavides who is tied for first. The Cochabamba, Bolivia, native carded 14 pars and a birdie en route to her 74.
One stroke back from Benavides is fellow freshman Rachel Rohanna who is in third at 75. Also in the top 5 is senior captain Emma Jandel who fired an opening round of 76 to tie for fourth.
Round out the Ohio State lineup is junior In Hong Lim, the defending Lady Buckeye medalist, who is tied for ninth at 79. Freshman Amy Meier and sophomore Vicky Villanueva are tied for 16th after rounds of 81.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Nara Shin is tied for 51st at 86.
