Sophomore Rachel Rohanna fires back-to-back rounds of 74 to sit in tie for 12th
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After 36 holes, the Ohio State women’s golf team concluded day one of the Central District Invitational in ninth. Opening with a team score of 303, the Buckeyes improved by a stroke in the afternoon to total 605 at the par 72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla.
The Buckeyes are just two strokes back from Big Ten foes Michigan and Michigan State who are currently tied for seventh. Holding a one-stroke advantage over second-place Texas A&M, LSU currently sits atop the leaderboard with a team score of 583.
Carding back-to-back rounds of 74, sophomore co-captain Rachel Rohanna currently leads Ohio State in a tie for 12th at 148. Just one stroke away from breaking into the Top 10, the Waynesburg, Pa., native fired four birdies in each round.
Just two strokes back from Rohanna is Vicky Villanueva who notched three birdies and 26 pars through 36 holes. The junior from Chacabuco, Argentina, fired scores of 74 and 76 to sit in a tie for 22nd at 150.
After opening with a round of 78, sophomore Susana Benavides improved by four strokes in the afternoon with a score of 74 that included three birdies. Benavides, of Cochabamba, Bolivia, is currently tied for 37th at 152.
Tallying a sum of 155, sophomore Amy Meier is tied for 49th. The Rochester Hills, Mich., native carded a first round of 77, but added a stroke in the afternoon to finish round two with a 78.
Rounding out the Buckeye lineup is senior co-captain In Hong Lim. After a rocky morning round of 82, the Melbourne, Australia, product settled in the afternoon to improve with a score of 78. Opening round two with a birdie on hole No. 11, Lim is currently tied for 66th at 160.
The two-day, 54-hole Central District Invitational will conclude tomorrow with an 8 a.m. (ET) shotgun start. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
