COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Buckeyes are the preseason choice as the No. 1 team in the nation. The college football coaches previously selected the Buckeyes No. 1 in their first poll of the season, the USA Today Coaches Poll. And today, the first Associated Press college football poll of the season was revealed and the Buckeyes are No. 1 in it as well.

And while Ohio State earned 62 of 64 first place votes in the coaches’ poll with TCU and Alabama each securing one vote apiece, the AP pollsters – a panel of media members – selected Ohio State as the unanimous No. 1 with all 61 first-place votes going to the Buckeyes. The AP preseason poll dates back to 1950 and this is the first time it has ever had a unanimous preseason No. 1 team.

No. 1 in poll appearances
Ohio State has been ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 poll more than any school in the nation; 839 times and nearly 50 weeks more than the team with the second-most appearances.

Ohio State is ranked No. 1 by the AP for the 96th time. Only two schools, Oklahoma (101) and Notre Dame (98) have been the AP’s No. 1 team more weeks than Ohio State.
