COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State cheerleaders finished sixth at the 2005 UCA College Nationals at Walt Disney World Sunday in Orlando, Fla. It was the highest finish by a squad in the Big Ten or in the state of Ohio and the team’s highest place since finishing second in 2001.

“The routine went really, really well,” Judy Bunting, the Ohio State cheerleading coach, said. “We could have done a little better and maybe finished one or two places higher, but the competition was very, very stiff.”

Ohio State finished 15th at the 2004 nationals after placing seventh in 2003 and sixth in 2002. The Buckeyes earned a second-place finish in 2001 and placed sixth in 2000. Ohio State won the 1993 College Cheerleading National Championship.

Ohio State won the Northeast Region competition to qualify for the national competition for the 16th time in the last 18 years. By winning their region, the Buckeyes received an automatic bid to the national competition.

The national competition will be televised by ESPN and aired at a later date.
