COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team (5-10-2, 4-6-2 WCHA) fell to the No. 8 Princeton Tigers (8-3-2, 3-1-0 ECAC), 1-0, Friday at Hobey Baker Memorial Rink in Princeton, N. J.

The Buckeyes were unable to score on their first power-play opportunity of the game at 3:41. Ohio State kept the puck in their offensive zone for the majority of the period. The Buckeyes had six shots on goal to Princeton’s four. The first period ended scoreless.

Ohio State and Princeton stepped up the intensity in the second stanza. Early in the period the Buckeyes had a power-play chance, which they were unable to score on. Emily Hudak (Sr., Marblehead, Mass./Cushing) soon followed with her first penalty of the game for tripping 41 seconds into the period. A set of conceindentals were given to Ohio State Jeni Creary (So., Shell Lake, Saskatchewan/Notre Dame) and Princeton April Brown for roughing at 15:33. The Tigers followed with a four-on-four goal by Gretchen Anderson at 15:59. At the end of the period, Princeton led 1-0 on the scoreboard, but OSU led seven to five in shots.

The Buckeye defense dominated the third period holding Princeton to three shots. The Tigers first shot on goal did not come until 11:50 into the period. Hudak received her second penalty of the game for tripping at 13:28, giving Princeton their second power play of the game. The Buckeye penalty-killing unit held the Tigers. Ohio State pulled its goaltender at 18:22 in an attempt to tie the game. The Buckeyes fought hard but could not get the puck in the net.

OSU outshot the Tigers 21-13. The Buckeyes held Princeton scoreless on all two of their power-play opportunities. Ohio State was 0-for-6 on the power play. Ohio State goalkeeper Natalie Lamme (Fr., Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) saved 12 shots in 58:38 of play. Princeton’s Megan Van Beusekom recorded 21 saves in 60 minutes.

Ohio State takes on No. 8 Princeton for game two of the series at 7 p.m. Saturday in Hobey Baker Memorial Rink.
