COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey dropped a hard fought game to Indiana, 3-1, Friday afternoon at the Mellencamp Pavilion in Bloomington, Ind. The Buckeyes fall to 8-9 on the season and 1-5 in the Big Ten, while the Hoosiers improve to 11-7 and 1-5 in the Big Ten.
Ohio State is back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday to face the St. Louis Billikens at Mellencamp Pavilion.
Indiana jumped out early taking a 3-0 lead in the first half. IU’s Frederique Meeuwsen scored an unassisted goal at 7:35 into the game. The Hoosiers kept up their momentum as Meewsen scored her second goal at 16:06 assisted by Lesley Wiler. Nikki Orciuch scored Indiana’s third and final goal of the goal at 27:18 to close out the first stanza.
Ohio State stopped Indiana’s attack in the second half, not allowing a single shot. Senior forward Cammie Trainer (Hudson, Ohio) scored an unassisted goal at 64:18. The Buckeyes posted 12 shots in the stanza but were only able to capitalize on one.
OSU goalkeeper Lindsay Williams (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa.) recorded two saves in the full 70 minutes of action. IU’s goalie Katie Kanara tallied four saves.
The Buckeyes outshot the Hoosiers 12 to eight. OSU recorded nine penalty corners to Indiana’s three.
