COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s golf team will travel to Naples, Fla. to host a one-day, 18-hole event vs. Florida Atlantic March 2 at the Quail Creek Golf Club. The Buckeyes will match-up against the Owls on the par 72, 6,300-yard Creek Course beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
All of the Buckeyes’ veterans will make the trip down south to compete in the Naples Challenge. Ohio State’s roster will include two seniors in Carling Coffing, who has led the Buckeyes in both spring tournaments this season, and Haley Brown. Also competing are three juniors in captain Gemma Webster, Jessica Hauser and Jennifer Cassidy, as well as sophomore Emma Jandel, who has participated in every tournament in her college career.
Ohio State heads to Naples coming off a successful performance last time out at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., Feb. 18-19. The Buckeyes finished fourth at the event, with two golfers placing in the Top 20. Coffing led the squad in a tie for third, while Jandel tied for 18th. Ohio States fourth-place finish at the Central District ties their highest finish of the 2007-08 season.
For her stellar performance at the Central District Invitational, Coffing was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week for Feb. 20. The Middletown, Ohio native closed the event with two rounds of even par (72) and finished tied for third at 5-over 221 for the second-highest finish of her career. Coffing leads the Buckeyes in stroke average with 75.8 in 11 rounds this season.
After concluding competition in the Naples Challenge, Ohio State will take a two-week hiatus from tournament action. The Buckeyes will next compete at the Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin, Texas, March 17-18.
