Ohio State Drops Match Against Wisconsin on Senior Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s soccer team fell against Wisconsin, 2-0 Sunday afternoon to conclude the 2017 regular season at Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes move to 7-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in Big Ten play, while the Badgers improve to 8-4-4 overall and 4-3-1 in conference action.

BUCKEYES DOWN A MAN EARLY
Ohio State was forced to play down a man for the rest of the match after Will Hirschman was issued a red card in the 18th minute. The match had slow action to start as both teams were getting used to each other on both sides of the pitch. Wisconsin controlled the majority of the possession in the first half and led in shots 7-3, while the Buckeyes held a 4-2 lead in corners.

WISCONSIN GETS ON THE BOARD
With the Buckeyes down a man, the Badgers broke through in the 30th minute when Mike Catalano buried a lower right shot inside the far post from 10 yards out after a through ball by Chris Mueller for the 1-0 lead.

BADGERS EARLY SECOND-HALF GOAL
Wisconsin made it a 2-0 contest with a goal 31 seconds into the second half. Catalano sent a low cross to Tom Barlow in front of net, who passed back to an open Mueller from eight yards out. The Wisconsin midfielder finished with his eighth goal of the year into the back left of net at 45:31.

Forced to play a man down, the Buckeyes were limited in second-half opportunities. Mitch Bergman had a shot on goal in the 57th minute. Kevin Blackwood had a shot that was saved in the 86th minute from 15 yards out. Parker Siegfried came in for the Buckeyes in the 63rd minute. Xavier Kennedy made one save and falls to 0-4-0 on the year.
