Tryout Information- Sunday, April 10, 2011 (Time: 8:30 a.m.) at St. John Arena.
• Registration to begin at 7:45a
• 1st round to begin at 8:30a
• Final Round begins at 1:30p (open to public)

All potential members must turn in the Tryout Application at registration. We highly suggest this is completed prior to your arrival. At that time, you will receive a number that you will need to wear for the entire audition. Form fitting attire and proper dance shoes (jazz shoes, paws) and performance hair and makeup is highly recommended. You MUST sign a waiver in order to participate in the auditions. If you are not 18, a parent and/or legal guardian must be in attendance with you to sign this waiver.
Note: This tryout is for incoming freshman and/or current students attending The Ohio State University full time for the 2011-2012 year. Incoming freshmen will need to bring their official Ohio State University acceptance letter. Current OSU students, please bring your 2011 autumn quarter schedule.
The following will be taught and scored at the 2011-2012 Dance Team Tryouts:
1st cuts will be made prior to lunch. Final round will begin after lunch and the 2011-2012 team will be announced. The audition is closed to the public.
A 60 seconds dance will be taught in the morning: consisting ofjazz, pom, and hip hop styles. You will be judged on thefollowing:
– Jazz:Technical execution, extension, control, body placement, andmusical interpretation
– Pom:Motion placement, control, precision, sharpness, and energy
– HipHop: Street style movements with emphasis on control and bodyisolations
Fight Song will be taught in the morning. You will bejudged on–sharpness motion placement, memory, emergy, smile, andexecution
Technical Skills–Double and Triple pirouettes,fouettes, switch leaps, center leaps, toe touches, and a skill ofyour choice to showcase flexibility (ex: leg extension, walkover,penche) Appearance–Physical attractiveness, poise, posture, andphysically fit. Interview (final round)– Personality, ability tocommunicate, and attitude
Dance Team consists of 16 members and practices at least three days a week. The team performs at all home men’s basketball games, select women’s basketball games, meet and greet at home football games, and select wrestling matches. They are also involved in campus and community service events throughout the year. The team attends UDA (Universal Dance Association) summer camp in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in August and UDA College Nationals in Orlando, Florida in January.

Dance Team Video Audition Information
Thank you for your interest in The Ohio State Dance Team. Please see the following audition requirements which should be demonstrated on your video audition should you not be available to audition on Sunday, April 18th. All tapes should be received by Friday, April 1st:

Written ON your tape/DVD (not a separate piece of paper), please include your full name, address, home and cell numbers, and email address. Please include a dance resume on a separate sheet of paper as well as a photo of yourself. You must provide proof of The Ohio State University acceptance (copy of acceptance letter) or if you are a current student, please provide a copy of your 2010 autumn quarter schedule (full time status).
Requirements for the video are:
Minimum of 45 seconds of your strongest style of dance (HipHop, Pom or Jazz) Double, Triple, and Quad Pirouttes Fouettecombination of your choice Switch leap, center leap, and leap ofyour choice (example: turning disc) Toe touch A skill thatshowcases flexibility (example: extension, walkover, penche)
The technical elements above should be shown after your dance. Please wear appropriate dance attire in your video, performance hair and makeup. You will be notified by Monday, April 19 if you have made the 2010-2011 dance team.

You must have all the following items filled out and turned in to the coaches on the first day of tryouts to be eligible to participate:
|1. Typed Dance Resume with attached photo (5X7 or larger head shot) Photos will NOT be returned|
|2. Signed Constitution Commitment Form|
|3. Signed and Completed Medical Release Form|
|4. Signed and Completed Athletic Participation Form completely filled out.|
All items must be placed in the above order and sealed in an envelope with your name printed neatly on the front of the envelope.
The Dance Team constitution covers all specific information about the program¡¦s requirements for participants and explains our program. Please review all materials carefully. You are responsible for understanding and abiding by all guidelines. We are looking for women who have strong dance training and technique, are passionate and spirit-driven, and have a dedicated work ethic. Being part of the dance team is exciting, but it is also a major commitment.
Regular team practices start during the first week of school (third week of September) and finish after the Men¡¦s Basketball season (Mid-March). We will have a summer practice schedule, which will be announced after tryouts. All former team members must try out for a position on the team. A Fall Tryout may be held at the discretion of the coaches pending the results of the Spring Tryout (Mid April).
