COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the 2005 All-Ohio Championships Friday in Delaware, Ohio. The men’s team edged Ohio University by a 64-75 score to claim first place for the third time this season, while the women were topped by Akron by a 71-82 margin.

Both the men’s and women’s teams featured a second-place runner as junior Nicole Gliem (18:11.0)took second in the 5-kilometer event for the second consecutive season and sophomore Alex Bailey (25:56.6) led the men on the 8K course with a runner-up performance, which serves as his highest career finish.

The men’s team successfully defended its 2004 All-Ohio team title, benefiting from three Top 10 placers in Bailey, junior Glenn Collins (26:10.7/Fifth) and freshman Levi Fox (26:16.9/10th). Buckeye senior Brian Olinger, who won the 2004 event, was one of four Ohio State runners that did not compete. Sophomores John Ealy, the 2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and Braden Martinez and freshman Jeff See also were held out of the event.

Gliem took second place in the All-Ohio meet for the second year-in-a-row and was edged at the finish line by Beata Rudzinska of Akron. Junior Melanie Price (18:36.3/ Seventh) also finished in the Top 10.
