COLUMBUS, Ohio – The sixth-seeded Ohio State men’s soccer team fell, 3-0, against third-seeded Wisconsin in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament Sunday afternoon at McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis. The Buckeyes conclude the 2016 campaign with a 5-13-1 overall record and 3-4-1 mark in Big Ten play.

The Badgers scored three goals in the second half of action and will face No. 2 seed Indiana in the semifinals next Friday in Westfield, Ind.

INCREDIBLE FIRST HALF BY SIEGFRIED
Redshirt goalkeeper Parker Siegfried was fantastic for the Buckeyes with six big saves in the first half. In the third minute, Enda O’Neill struck a shot from eight yards out but was denied when Siegfried dove to his right and got two hands on it for his first stop of the afternoon. Five minutes later, a lofted shot from the near side floated towards goal and Siegfried leaped and snagged it out of the air with Badgers lurking around the goal line. In the 20th minute, Tom Barlow blasted a shot on frame, but Siegfried reacted well and made another diving stop from his knees. The Badgers continued to pressure and served in a cross from the near side in the 22nd minute. Christopher Mueller headed a shot towards goal, but Siegfried extended and got enough on it to keep it out of the net for his fifth stop. Siegfried denied Mueller again in the 35th minute when he halted a free kick chance from the far post. With the incredible play of Siegfried, the Buckeyes headed into halftime tied, 0-0. Shots were 8-2 in favor of Wisconsin in the first half.

SOLDAT SO CLOSE IN THE 40TH
Ohio State’s best chance came in the 40th minute. Jacob Duska played in a ball from the top of box to Christian Soldat, who came sprinting inside from the right wing. The OSU forward was able to get a foot on it on a sliding attempt, but it sailed high just over the bar. Despite no goal, it was a positive result in a first half where possession was mostly controlled by the Badgers.

WISCONSIN TAKES THE LEAD
The Badgers found the first goal of the match in the 53rd minute. A cross by Mark Segbers from 20 yards out found Barlow at the far post, who leaped and headed in the shot into the back left of net.

BADGERS ADD ANOTHER
Four minutes later, Wisconsin extended its lead to 2-0. A loose ball in the box found the foot of Elan Koenig, who struck a shot from 10 yards out and beat Siegfried at 56:12 with a goal.

BUCKEYES CONTINUE TO BATTLE
Like they’ve done all year, the Scarlet and Gray never gave up despite the second-half deficit. The Buckeyes earned corners in the 73rd and 77th minute, respectively, but couldn’t put a shot on frame. Ohio State held a 5-4 lead in corners in the match.

WISCONSIN NETS A THIRD GOAL
The Badgers added an insurance goal in the 80th minute when Mueller scored his seventh goal of the season from 12 yards out.
