COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing team completed its weekend trip to New York Sunday with the St. John’s Invitational. The Buckeyes squared off against No. 4 Columbia, No. 1 Penn State, St. John’s and No. 3 Harvard, as the men finished with a 2-2 dual record and the women with a 1-3 mark.
Ohio State was placed against Columbia in the first round, splitting its matches for the second time this weekend after facing the Lions Saturday in the NYU Duals. The results were eerily similar for the two squads, with the men once again winning by a large margin, 21-6, and the women falling with the same score from the previous day, 15-12.
In the second round, Penn State defeated both Ohio State squads. The men fell in a close bout, 14-13, while the women struggled to keep up with the Nittany Lions, falling 20-7.
Round three resulted in another split decision between St. John’s and the Buckeyes. Both squads battled fiercely, with the men winning 14-13 and the women falling 14-13. All four matches between St. John’s and Ohio State this weekend ended in 14-13 scores.
The Scarlet and Gray ended the day against Harvard. The Crimson edged out the Buckeye men 15-12, fueled by a 7-2 showing in epee. The OSU women fared better, winning 17-10.
